We Have The Power To
End Youth Homelessness
With more than 100,000 people on the social housing waitlist, it is estimated that at least 60,000 additional social housing properties are needed across Victoria over the next 10 years - just to maintain current levels.
You might be surprised to know there are more than 3,200 young people aged 15-24 who are turning up to homelessness services alone each day. They don’t have the safety or support that all young people need.
MCM has the largest provision of refuges in the state, and our refuges are full. Many young people are waiting at the doors of a refuge after leaving institutional care or escaping violent homes.
With your support we can make a powerful and positive difference in the lives of young people experiencing homelessness.
The power of Teamwork.
End Youth Homelessness
Sleep At The ’G is a unique opportunity to get your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours, or your club together and join you in sleeping at the MCG.
You'll learn about the issues facing young people and hear first-hand their personal stories that will inspire you and your understanding of homelessness. At the same time, it's a night of fun and entertainment with live music, games, DJs, a fashion parade, prizes and lots more!
It's an unforgettable night to share together.
On the night
We describe MCM Sleep At The ’G as a fun night for a serious issue – and we aren’t kidding about that! From the moment you walk through the turnstiles you'll feel the buzz in the air. This is one of the most unique events in Victoria, and you'll quickly see why.
Upon entering the grand MCG, you will be warmly welcomed by volunteers and staff from MCM. You will then be directed to your sleeping area shortly before the night's proceedings kick-off.
We will all gather in the famous stands of the ’G with Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Joy Murphy Wandin for the Welcome to Country followed by a yidaki performance by Ganga Giri.
After the official welcome, our MC for the night, Geraldine Quinn, will kick off the night’s festivities. From here, there will be a host of activities for everyone to enjoy. Whether you like participating in groups or just relaxing quietly with a friend, the choice is yours.
Entertainment
- Have some laughs and join us for some stand-up comedy with Geraldine Hickey and Maddy Weeks.
- Experience the wonder of magic with magician Nick Kay.
- Show off your dance moves throughout the night to the music of DJ Shimmy Barnes. You might win a prize for best dancing!
- Live music from Phil Ceberano and Russell 'Robbo' Robertson is also on the agenda for those who like to pump up the volume.
- At the end of the night, we’ll gather as a group for an unforgettable sing-a-long within the stands of the MCG.
Real Stories
- Join our panel discussion to hear from an amazing group of young people with lived and living experiences. Feedback from past events has shown this to be an incredibly impactful and eye-opening experience.
Fun & Games
- If you enjoy some friendly competition, you’ll want to test your skills on our range of jumbo games including a handball target, Lego workshop, Jenga, Connect Four and Guess Who!
- Who doesn’t like a parade, especially when it’s a fashion parade. This activity is always a lot of fun and loads of laughs.
Reflect
- Enjoy some mindful colouring, visit the quiet room or take a moment in the Multi-Faith Prayer Room to relax and reflect on what you have been experiencing throughout the night.
- Centre yourself with yoga and meditation with Happy Melon Studios.
If you're still craving more, don't forget the night's your canvas! Snap a bunch of selfies at our epic social media wall or 360 degree photo booth and soak in all the fantastic energy and activities happening around you!
